Welcome To The Foreign Exchange Golf Club
LONDON -- Private FX traders and ex-trading professionals will soon have a venue at which to mix currency trading with a round of golf.
At the end January, Trader House Network will open the first of a proposed network of country club FX dealing rooms at Cottesmore Country Club, near Gatwick in London.
Seven FX dealing seats will be available to rent, and up to 40 additional seats will be added to the dealing floor if demand arises.
Andy Shearman, co-founder of Trader House Network, says private traders and ex-City professionals may prefer a "team" environment to trading privately: "It's useful to be in an environment where traders can learn from each other."
"There has been an exponential increase in the number of private FX traders," says Shearman. There are more individuals trading currencies on their own accounts, and more ex-traders made redundant through bank mergers and downsizing of banks' FX operations, he says.
A dealing seat at the Club costs £1,000 per month, which includes access to a Reuters terminal, analytical trading tools, and access to online trading sites Gain Capital and iFX. Use of the country club's gym, spa, tennis and sauna facilities is free of charge, and the club's golf courses are half-price.
The Cottesmore dealing room will also host FX trading tutorials. Trader House Network, also managed by co-founder Tim Finch, hopes to establish a chain of FX dealing rooms in the United Kingdom. American Golf (UK), which owns the Cottesmore Country Club, owns 21 golf courses in the UK.
